Ulysses audiobook online free:

Ulysses is a novel by the Irish author James Joyce and chronicles the passage of Leopold Bloom through Dublin during an ordinary day, 16 June 1904 (the day of James Joyce's first date with his future wife, Nora Barnacle).
Ulysses is divided into 18 chapters or "episodes". At first glance much of the book Ulysses may appear unstructured and chaotic; James Joyce once said that he had "put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant," which would earn the novel "immortality". The two schemata which Stuart Gilbert and Herbert Gorman released after publication to defend James Joyce from the obscenity accusations made the links to the Odyssey clear, and also explained the work's internal structure...

Ulysses by James Joyce: It is 8 a.m. Buck Mulligan, a boisterous medical student, calls Stephen Dedalus (a young writer encountered as the principal subject of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) up to the roof of the Sandycove Martello tower where they both live. There is tension between Stephen and Mulligan, stemming from a cruel remark Stephen has overheard Mulligan making about his recently deceased mother and from the fact that Mulligan has invited an English student, Haines, to stay with them. The three men eat breakfast and walk to the shore, where Mulligan demands from Stephen the key to the tower and a loan. Departing, Stephen declares that he will not return to the tower tonight, as Mulligan, the "usurper", has taken it over...

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a semi-autobiographical novel by James Joyce, first serialised in the magazine The Egoist from 1914 to 1915, and published first in book format in 1916 by B. W. Huebsch, New York. The first English edition was published by the Egoist Press in February 1917. The story describes the formative years of the life of Stephen Dedalus, a fictional alter ego of James Joyce and an allusion to the consummate craftsman of Greek mythology, Daedalus.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man full movie online free:

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce: He finally leaves for abroad to pursue his ambitions as an artist. The work is an early example of some of James Joyce's modernist techniques that would later be represented in a more developed manner by Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. The novel, which has had a "huge influence on novelists across the world", was ranked by Modern Library as the third greatest English-language novel of the 20th century.
Stylistically, the novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is written as a third-person narrative with minimal dialogue, though towards the very end of the book dialogue-intensive scenes involving Dedalus and some of his friends, in which Dedalus posits his complex, Thomist aesthetic theory, and finally journal entries by Stephen, are introduced.

The novel, written in James Joyce's characteristic free indirect speech style, traces the intellectual and religio-philosophical awakening of young Stephen Dedalus as he begins to question and rebel against the Catholic and Irish conventions with which he has been raised... (Summary by Wikipedia)

Moby Dick; or, The Whale is a novel by Herman Melville, first published in 1851. Moby Dick is considered to be one of the Great American Novels and a treasure of world literature.
The story Moby Dick tells the adventures of wandering sailor Ishmael, and his voyage on the whaleship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael soon learns that Ahab has one purpose on this voyage: to seek out Moby Dick, a ferocious, enigmatic white sperm whale. In a previous encounter, the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg, which now drives Ahab to take revenge...

Moby Dick trailer online free (2010):

Moby Dick by Herman Melville: Moby-Dick begins with the line "Call me Ishmael." This is one of the most recognizable opening lines in Western literature. The narrator, an observant young man setting out from Manhattan, has experience in the merchant marine but has recently decided his next voyage will be on a whaling ship. On a cold, gloomy night in December, he arrives at the Spouter-Inn in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and agrees to share a bed with a then-absent stranger. When his bunk mate, a heavily tattooed Polynesian harpooner named Queequeg, returns very late and discovers Ishmael beneath his covers, both men are alarmed, but the two quickly become close friends and decide to sail together from Nantucket, Massachusetts on a whaling voyage...

Moby Dick full movie online free (1956):

In Nantucket, the pair signs on with the Pequod, a whaling ship that is soon to leave port. The crew-members of the Pequod are carefully drawn stylizations of human types and habits; critics have often described the crew as a "self-enclosed universe". There are 30 crew members, and as there were thirty states in the union at the time, it has been suggested that, in its diversity, Melville meant the Pequod to be a metaphor for America... Alice in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. The book Alice in Wonderland tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world (Wonderland) populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults and children. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is considered to be of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre, and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been influential in popular culture and literature, especially in fantasy genres.

Alice in Wonderland movie trailer online free (2010):

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Down the Rabbit Hole: Alice is feeling bored while sitting on the riverbank with her sister, when she notices a talking, clothed White Rabbit with a pocket watch run past. Alice follows it down a rabbit hole when suddenly she falls a long way to a curious hall with many locked doors of all sizes. Alice finds a small key to a door too small for her to fit through, but through it she sees an attractive garden. Alice then discovers a bottle on a table labelled "DRINK ME", the contents of which cause her to shrink too small to reach the key which Alice has left on the table. A cake with "EAT ME" on it causes her to grow to such a tremendous size her head hits the ceiling...

Gulliver's Travels (1726, amended 1735), is a novel by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. Gulliver's Travels is Jonathan Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature.
The book Gulliver's Travels begins with a short preamble in which Lemuel Gulliver, in the style of books of the time, gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages. Gulliver enjoys travelling, although it is that love of travel that is his downfall.
During his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and finds himself a prisoner of a race of tiny people, less than 6 inches tall, who are inhabitants of the island country of Lilliput...

Gulliver's Travels movie trailer online free (1996):

Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift: After giving assurances of his good behaviour, Gulliver is given a residence in Lilliput and becomes a favourite of the court. From there, the book follows Gulliver's observations on the Court of Lilliput. He is also given the permission to roam around the city on a condition that he would not harm their subjects. Gulliver assists the Lilliputians to subdue their neighbours, the Blefuscudians, by stealing their fleet. However, he refuses to reduce the island nation of Blefuscu to a province of Lilliput, displeasing the King and the court. Gulliver is convicted of treason for "making water" in the capital (even though he was putting out a fire and saving countless lives)--among other "crimes."

Gulliver's Travels full movie online free (1960):

Gulliver is charged with treason and sentenced to be blinded. With the assistance of a kind friend, Gulliver escapes to Blefuscu, where he spots and retrieves an abandoned boat and sails out to be rescued by a passing ship which safely takes him back home... (Summary by Wikipedia)

Don Quixote is a novel written by Miguel de Cervantes, fully titled The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha. The novel Don Quixote ("best literary work ever written") follows the adventures of Alonso Quijano, who reads too many chivalric novels, and sets out to revive chivalry under the name of Don Quixote. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire, who frequently deals with Don Quixote's rhetorical orations on antiquated knighthood with a unique Earthy wit.
Alonso Quijano, the protagonist of the novel Don Quixote, is a retired country gentleman nearing fifty years of age, living in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and housekeeper.

Don Quixote full movie online free (1972):

Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes: While mostly a rational man of sound reason, his reading of books of chivalry in excess has had a profound effect on him, leading to the distortion of his perception and the wavering of his mental faculties. In essence, he believes every word of these books of chivalry to be true though, for the most part, the content of these books is clearly fiction. Otherwise, his wits, in regards to everything other than chivalry, are intact. He decides to go out as a knight-errant in search of adventure. He dons an old suit of armour, renames himself "Don Quixote de la Mancha," and names his skinny horse "Rocinante". Don Quixote designates a neighboring farm girl as his lady love, renaming her Dulcinea del Toboso, while she knows nothing about this.

Persuasion is Jane Austen's last completed novel. Jane Austen began it soon after she had finished Emma, completing it in August 1816. Jane Austen died, aged 41, in 1817; Persuasion was published in December that year (but dated 1818).
Persuasion is linked to Northanger Abbey not only by the fact that the two books were originally bound up in one volume and published together, but also because both stories are set partly in Bath, a fashionable city with which Jane Austen was well acquainted, having lived there from 1801 to 1805.
More than eight years before the novel opens, Anne Elliot, then a lovely, thoughtful, warm-hearted 19 year old, accepts a proposal of marriage from the handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth...

Persuasion movie trailer online free (2008):

Persuasion by Jane Austen: Officer Frederick Wentworth is clever, confident, and ambitious, but poor and with no particular family connections to recommend him. Sir Walter, Anne's fatuous, snobbish father and her equally self-involved older sister Elizabeth are dissatisfied with her choice, maintaining that he is no match for an Elliot of Kellynch Hall, the family estate. Her older friend and mentor, Lady Russell, acting in place of Anne's late mother, persuades her to break the engagement.

Persuasion full movie online free (2007):

Now 27 and still unmarried, Anne re-encounters her former love when his sister and brother-in-law, the Crofts, take out a lease on Kellynch. Wentworth is now a captain and wealthy from maritime victories in the Napoleonic wars. However, he has not forgiven Anne for rejecting him and while publicly declaring that he is ready to marry any suitable young woman who catches his fancy, privately resolves that he is ready to become attached to any appealing young woman except for Anne Elliot... Lady Susan full audiobook online free:

Lady Susan is a novel by Jane Austen, possibly written in 1794 but not published until 1871.
This epistolary novel, an early complete work that the author never submitted for publication, describes the schemes of the main character—the widowed Lady Susan—as she seeks a new husband for herself, and one for her daughter. Although the theme, together with the focus on character study and moral issues, is close to Austen's published work (Sense and Sensibility was also originally written in the epistolary form), its outlook is very different, and the heroine has few parallels in 19th-century literature.

Lady Susan by Jane Austen: Lady Susan is a selfish, attractive woman, who tries to trap the best possible husband while maintaining a relationship with a married man. She subverts all the standards of the romantic novel: she has an active role, she's not only beautiful but intelligent and witty, and her suitors are significantly younger than she is (in contrast with Sense and Sensibility and Emma, which feature marriages of men who are sixteen years older than their wives). Although the ending includes a traditional reward for morality, Lady Susan herself is treated much more mildly than the adulteress in Mansfield Park, who is severely punished.

The main character Lady Susan, at around 30 to 40 years old, she is a widow of just a few months, who is known to flagrantly manipulate and seduce single and married men alike. She uses flirtation and seduction to gain her way through life... (Summary by Wikipedia)

The Great Gatsby is a novel by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book The Great Gatsby was first published in 1925, and it has been republished in 1945 and 1953. There are two settings for the novel: on Long Island's North Shore, and in New York City. The book The Great Gatsby is set in 1922 from the spring to the autumn.
The Great Gatsby takes place during a prosperous time in American History. In 1922, America has fully recovered from the First World War, and is enjoying prosperity during the Roaring Twenties, when the economy soared and emotions ran high. Yet, at the same time, Prohibition, the ban on the sale and manufacture of alcohol as mandated by the Eighteenth Amendment, was gaining traction...

The Great Gatsby movie trailer online free (2012):

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: The ban on alcohol made millionaires out of bootleggers, who smuggled in the now-illegal substance. That scenario is the backdrop for the novel, which contributed to its popularity. After the novel was republished in 1945 and 1953, The Great Gatsby quickly found a wide readership. Today the book is widely regarded as a sort of Great American Novel, and a literary classic. The Modern Library named it the second best English-language novel of the 20th Century.

The Great Gatsby full movie online free (1974):

With The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald made a conscious departure from the writing process of his previous novels. He started planning it in June 1922, after completing his play The Vegetable and began composing The Great Gatsby in 1923. F. Scott Fitzgerald ended up discarding most of it as a false start, some of which resurfaced in the story "Absolution". (Summary by Wikipedia)

The Merchant of Venice is a tragic comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1596 and 1598. Though classified as a comedy in the First Folio and sharing certain aspects with William Shakespeare's other romantic comedies, the play is perhaps most remembered for its dramatic scenes, and is best known for Shylock and the famous 'Hath not a Jew eyes' speech. Also notable is Portia's speech about the 'quality of mercy'.
The title character is the merchant Antonio, not the Jewish moneylender Shylock, who is the play's most prominent and most famous character.

The Merchant of Venice movie trailer online free (2004):

The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare: Bassanio, an impoverished gentleman, uses the credit of his friend, the merchant Antonio, to borrow money from a wealthy Jew, Shylock. Antonio pledges to pay Shylock a pound of flesh if he defaults on the loan, which Bassanio will use to woo a rich heiress, Portia. A subplot concerns the elopement of Shylock's daughter Jessica with a Christian, Bassanio's friend Lorenzo. In its focus on love and marriage, the play The Merchant of Venice shares certain concerns with William Shakespeare's other comedies. Yet its depiction of the tensions between Jews and Christians in early modern Venice - and its highly dramatic trial scene in Act 4 - create darker currents in the play. (Summary by Elizabeth Klett)

The Merchant of Venice full movie online free:

The play The Merchant of Venice is frequently staged today, but is potentially troubling to modern audiences due to its central themes, which can easily appear antisemitic. Critics today still continue to argue over the play's stance on antisemitism.
